One of the questions I am most commonly asked is, "How did you begin working with flowers?". It's hard to answer, because I feel that flowers and weddings have always been a part of my life. My mother was a wedding photographer and my grandmother, Linda, an avid flower gardener, so I developed a deep love for flowers and weddings at a young age.
If I had to pinpoint a moment, however, my floral journey really began when I least expected it. While taking a floral design course in college (for a fun break from my other classes), my grandmother Linda passed away. My grandpa, practical as ever, did not want many flowers at the funeral, so my mom and I took it upon ourselves to do many of the arrangements. This was my first experience designing on my own, with complete creative freedom, and despite my grief something felt so right about it. In the broken, empty soil of my heart, a passion for floral design began to sprout (cheesy but really was how I felt!).
I like to think that ever since that event, my grandma Linda has been guiding me along the way, inspiring me notice the beauty of single petals, helping me remember all the many names and varieties of flowers she knew so well, and stirring gratitude in my heart for the Earth and the hands that grow such beautiful flowers. I've never forgotten the power of flowers in evoking emotion and celebrating life in all it's highs and lows, and consider it a true honor to design florals for my couples' most special days.
